Browncroft

The Browncroft Neighborhood is known for its beautiful homes, public right-of-way landscaping, and the abundance of trees and flowering shrubs. The entire neighborhood was planned - the vision of Charles J. Brown, a nurseryman turned real-estate developer.

The Browncroft neighborhood boasts a diversity of residential architectural styles from early farm houses to Arts and Crafts, then Colonial, Georgian and Tudor revivals. Most of the homes were built in the 1920s and feature leaded glass and bay windows, classical pediments and porticoes, hardwood floors and fireplaces. Many houses have clapboard siding, natural wood shingle, or half timbered stucco. There are a wide variety of living landmarks, the trees-Norway maples, Austrian pines, magnolias, London plane and especially the many varieties of beech trees.

The neighborhood straddles the city of Rochester and the town of Brighton line. But with its own strong sense of community history and pride, it defies any identification but its own -Browncroft, the best of urban-suburban living.
