Rochester's Grand Esplanade

The East Avenue Neighborhood

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the captains of Rochester's legendary industries—most notably George Eastman, founder of Eastman Kodak—turned East Avenue from a country track into one of the grandest avenues in the country. Today, East Avenue still inspires, but is accessible to more than just the wealthiest corporate execs. Residences, offices, museums, shops and stores, and more line the Avenue within the city limits, and people from all walks of life partake in its enduring grandeur.
